Background information
TOEFL Gives you:
- 6 Speaking Tasks
- Between 15 and 30 seconds to prepare your answer
- Between 45 and 60 seconds to speak your answer
Task 1: Description or Advice
- You are asked to either describe a person / place / event or to give advice
- You have 15 seconds to prepare
- You have 45 seconds to speak
Task 2: Argument
- You are asked to present your opinion or argument in response to the prompt
- You have 15 seconds to prepare
- You have 45 seconds to speak
Task 3: University Announcement
- You read a univeristy announcement for 45-50 seconds
- You listen to one or two students talk about the announcement
- If it is two students, one will be male, the other female
- You are asked to summarize what you read and hear, with more emphasis on the listening
- You have 30 second to prepare
- You have 60 seconds to speak
Task 4: Academic Reading & Listening
- You read a short paragraph on an academic topic
- You listen to a short lecture on the same topic
- This lecture will either SUPPORT or CONTRAST the reading
- You are asked to summarize what your read and heard and identify the Listening's relationship to the Reading
- You have 30 seconds to prepare
- You have 60 seconds to speak
Task 5: Student Problem
- You listen to a conversation between 1 male and 1 female student
- One of the students has a problem
- The other student offers some solutions to the problem
- You are asked to summarize the problem and the solutions
- You might be asked to say what solution you like best and why
- You have 20 seconds to prepare
- You have 60 seconds to speak
Task 6: Academic Lecture
- You listen to a lecture on an academic topic
- You are asked to summarize the lecture
- You have 15 seconds to prepare
- You have 45 seconds to speak
